Blue Knight Wrestlers Bested By Ridgewater College

12/22/04

ROSEMOUNT, Minn.-- The DCTC Blue Knights faced a very tough challenge when they took on #2-ranked Ridgewater College in a home match held at Apple Valley High School on Dec. 16, losing 49-6.

The Blue Knights scored their only victory with a forfeit in the heavyweight class, but the rest of the competition was dominated by Ridgewater.

According to DCTC Head Coach Henry Gerten, the match was lopsided from the start when DCTC's Justin Weeks could not wrestle because of an injury at 133, and the team faced forfeits at 125 and 141. At other levels, Nate Brackenbury wrestled very tough at 149 before being pinned by Ridgewater's Dusty Myers.

Aaron Myers from DCTC wrestled up a weight class at 157 and gave up a major decision to Jarret Hall from Ridgewater 16-2. Perry Olson showed great promise, losing a very close match to Dan Taylor 6-4. Olson got a takedown at the end of the match but it was not enough to overcome an early deficit.

At 174, Kyle Muhlberg was soundly defeated by Ridgewater's Kenny Blakely, losing by fall in 4:54 and DCTC's Carl Troje got pinned by Chad Minnette in 2:00 at 184.

Coach Gerten commented that the Blue Knights were just out-matched. "Every Blue Knight wrestled hard," Gerten said. "We will look to after Christmas to improve our training techniques and really focus on getting ready for the end of the season."

The Blue Knights will take time off to rest until Dec. 28, competing next at Eagan High School against the Rochester Yellow Jackets on Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m. The team then leaves for Chicago on Jan. 7 and 8 for the Harper duals.
