DCTC Blue Knights Wrestling Season Begins Nov. 19
11/19/04
ROSEMOUNT, Minn.-The Dakota County Technical College wrestling team takes to the mats for its fourth season on Friday, Nov. 19, hosting the Itasca Vikings at Rosemount High School at 7 p.m.
Head Coach Henry Gerten and the Blue Knights bring in a very young team with all first-year students in the lineup and the ability to fill most weight classes in competition. For its part, Itasca is coming off a solid season where it placed 4th in the nation at nationals and has a lot of confidence coming into the season.
Coach Gerten expects the season opener to be a fun dual that will gauge of where his young team sits as the year begins.
"At this point, we are the underdogs for the dual," Gerten said.
After taking on Itasca, the Blue Knights hope to get some experience quickly as they travel to the tough Auggie Open tournament the very next day at 9 a.m. in Minneapolis at Augsburg.
"The wrestlers have been working very hard in the classroom and on the mat," said Gerten. "Our coaching staff is very excited coming into the year and looking to the future."
The Blue Knights have a wonderful new facility just north of the main campus with a spacious wrestling room, new locker facilities and a state of the art classroom with video equipment and a big screen.
