DCTC Wrestlers Struggle At St. Olaf Invitational
12/08/03
The DCTC wrestling squad competed well but was overmatched against very tough competition on Saturday, Dec. 6 at St. Olaf College in Northfield.
According to Coach Henry Gerten, the Blue Knights performed well against St. Olaf, coming away with a 26-26 tie, but struggled against other four-year programs during the weekend event.
Gerten said other action included a 54-0 loss to William and Penn, a 41-6 loss to Division III power Wartburg, and a 43-3 loss to St. John’s University. Coach Gerten reported that he took three pages of notes and noted that the Blue Knight team needs to be more confident even when wrestling tough competition.
“We didn't wrestle bad but simply lacked confidence,” Gerten said. "We should do much better on Wednesday (in Rochester against three junior colleges). Wrestling tough competition really shows you your weaknesses and helps you get better. However, it does hurt your confidence.”
Strong individual performances from the Blue Knights included: Tony Belvedere (2-2); Erik Healy (1-3); Cory Warman (1-3); Ron Gardas (1-3); Sam Sadek (1-3); and Neil Happel (1-3). Tim Miller and Joe Conley each went 0-4 for the day.
