Six Wrestlers Headed for Nationals

02/21/02

Coming off its inaugural season, the Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) wrestling team has six wrestlers headed for nationals. Scheduled for Feb. 28 and March 1 in Rochester, the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) championships will showcase the best of the best from across the nation. News of DCTC’s success in its first season was well received on campus.

“All of our wrestlers have put their hearts into the team and are now being rewarded for their hard work,” said DCTC President Ron Thomas. “Our athletic program is an important part of building well-balanced individuals.”

DCTC Athletic Director Reggie Perkins echoed Thomas’ remarks.

“Our sports programs are thriving thanks to the dedication of our students and support from the college administration,” Perkins said. “DCTC has shown it has the commitment to build a winning athletics program while providing a high-quality education.”

DCTC wrestlers who qualified for nationals at last week’s tournament at Minnesota West Community and Technical College in Worthington are: Rich Taylor; Ryan Gunhus; Jon Jenneman; Sean Owens; Sam Sadek; and Jason Juliar.

The NJCAA national tournament is being held next Friday and Saturday at the UCR Regional Sports Center in Rochester.
