With a nickname of Cyclones, the Iowa State women’s soccer club team should thrive in poor weather. Instead, it was the Blue Knights of Dakota County Technical College that handled the terrible conditions in Ames, Iowa and defeated the Cyclones.

Playing in a driving rainstorm on Thursday, Oct. 18, Dakota County Technical College women’s soccer team defeated Iowa State’s club team 2-0.

The Blue Knights took advantage of a strong wind in the first half by scoring two goals and held the Cylcones off the board when they had the wind in the second half.

"This is about as good as we have played all year, we have come close in a number of close games, but we finally played a solid 90 minutes," head coach Cam Stolz said. "We were rewarded with a good win."

DCTC got on the board early in the first half when freshman Collette Montogomery (Edina, Minn.) took a beautiful pass from freshman Kate Vanwatermulen (Eagan, Minn.), cut across the top of the penalty box and ripped a shot past the Iowa State goalie for a 1-0 lead.

Keely Anderson (Soph., River Falls, Wis.) scored the second goal for the Blue Knights on a corner kick that she bent over the goalie’s head and into the net.

In the second half, the Blue Knights defense held Iowa State off the board despite playing against a strong wind.

The win improves the women’s soccer team record to 6-12 on the season.
