Blue Knights Soccer Takes Second Game To Remain Perfect
09/02/03
Seven was a lucky number for the DCTC Blue Knights Women's soccer team on Saturday as it prevailed 7-0 over the College of DuPage in suburban Chicago. The inter-district game served as a good test against an NJCAA team that has been successful for the last decade. A level game was played for the first 15 minutes before DCTC turned a quality scoring chance into the first of many goals.
Laree Lother (Apple Valley) scored the first Blue Knight goal in the 16th minute on an assist from Gina Heggelman (Orono). Thirteen minutes later, Heggelman herself scored on an assist from Hillary Keefer. The offensive floodgates then opened for the Blue Knights scoring four more times in the following 10 minutes taking a secure 6-0 lead into halftime. Seven minutes into the second half had Becca Noonan (Brooklyn Park) scored her second goal of the game and fourth in two matches. Five different players scored goals for the Blue Knights while Mandy Stockton, playing in her first game in goal, secured the shutout with four saves.
The win put the program at 2-0-0 with 11 goals scored and a clean sheet with two shutouts so far. Sunday’s scheduled game at Rock Valley was cancelled by the home team late last week. DCTC will make up the open date with a game at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter on Thursday Oct. 2, at 4 p.m.
Up next for the Blue Knights is a game on Wednesday at Rochester Technical and Community College (4 p.m.). DCTC’s first home game will be on Friday, Sept. 5 against nationally ranked (9th) Iowa Central (at 4 p.m.). DCTC plays its home games at Johnny Cake Ridge Park in Apple Valley.
