Men's Soccer Battling Dry Spell

Sept. 23, 2008

Iowa Central Tritons shut out Knights 2-0

Failing to score has been a way of life early in the 2008 DCTC Blue Knights men's soccer season. On Sunday, Sept. 21, Iowa Central Community College hosted DCTC in an ICCAC match. DCTC out shot the Tritons, committed fewer fouls and owned possession for a good portion of the game. Nevertheless, the Knights couldn't find the back of the net and ended up losing to the Tritons 2-0.

Head Coach Cam Stoltz reported that his team has been shut out five times in eight games. "The lack of scoring puts more pressure on the entire team," said Stoltz. "We are playing good soccer, but frustration sets in when we constantly fall behind in the first half."

Stoltz went on to say that his Blue Knights are definitely improving. "We are working through our most difficult schedule to date," he said. "We have faced three ranked teams and are competing in the toughest two-year league in the nation. We have a strong contingent of healthy players and are learning from our setbacks."

"We have sorted out many of our issues between the goals," Stoltz added, "but we can't seem to get the goals we need to win. For instance, we held a top team like Iowa Central to one goal for most of the game, but instead of scoring, we gave up another goal with 15 minutes to play."

"But the guys see light at the end of this rough spot and are working as hard as ever," he concluded. "Luck will come our way with that investment."

DCTC is 1-6-1 midway through the season. Twelve games remain with eight in league play. The Knights host the Indian Hills Community College Warriors, an ICCAC foe, on Thursday, Sept. 25, with a 2 p.m. kickoff at Rose Park in Burnsville.

The following Sunday, Sept. 28, they play a non conference game at home against the Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers. Kickoff is 11 a.m.
