DCTC Advances To Regional Semifinal

10/23/07

The Dakota County Technical College men’s soccer team exacted some revenge and kept its season alive by upsetting Scott Community College in the first round of the Iowa Community Colleges Athletic Conference playoffs.

The Blue Knights topped the No. 4 seed Screaming Eagles 4-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 23 - avenging two losses in the regular season.

"This win is certainly one of the best in our four-year history," DCTC head coach Cam Stoltz said. "In all 90 minutes, we were the superior team on the field."

Sophomore Akey Jumale (Marshall, Minn.) opened up the scoring when he dribbled into the penalty box area and rifled a shot underneath the SCC goalie.

DCTC pushed their lead to 2-0 later in the first half when freshman Adi Bilani (Minneapolis, Minn.) scored.

Defenseman Erik Johnson (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) started the play when he led Bilani with a long pass from deep in the Blue Knights end. Bilani settled the ball and struck a beautiful volley from 20 yards away that dipped just under the crossbar into the net.

"Adi's goal was probably the most spectacular goal of the year. It helped seal confidence before half," DCTC assistant coach Nicole Meulemans said.

The Blue Knights kept up the pressure in the second half and scored twice more to put the game away.

Freshman Soni Phommachan (Burnsville, Minn.) broke through Scott’s defense on a great through pass from Trokon Kaigboyah (Fr .Champlain Park, Minn.) and easily slipped the ball past SCC’s goalie to make it 3-0.

Yair Garcia (Fr. Minneapolis, Minn.) completed the DCTC scoring when he scored off of a rebound on a shot from Dahir Jumale (Fr. Marshall, Minn.).

The Blue Knights will face No. 1 seed, fourth-ranked Marshalltown Community College in the regional semifinal on Saturday, Oct. 27 in Fort Dodge, Iowa at 11 a.m.
