Men's Soccer Defeats North Iowa In Final Regular Season Home Match
10/22/04
Apple Valley, Minn.-- The game-time temperature may have been a bit brisk, but the Blue Knights men's team kept warm in a 5-3 win against North Iowa Area Community College to close out the regular season at home at Johnny Cake Ridge Park.
NIACC drew first blood, scoring nine minutes into the game. DCTC answered five minutes later on a free kick from Kerby Camacho to Chris Kemp. On yet another set piece (free kick), DCTC’s Casey Holm added a second Blue Knight goal in the first half, assisted by Pat Harnett in the 39th minute.
The second half began with NIACC scoring two goals in the 47th and 64th minute putting DCTC behind 3-2. That was all the Blue Knights would allow from the visitors from the Hawkeye state. DCTC then turned up the pressure, even while playing a man down due to a first-half red card, scoring three unanswered goals. Holm added two more goals for a hat trick, while Isidoro Cornelio contributed his first goal of the season. Pat Harnett and Darren Alick added assists to the score sheet. Shots for the game favored DCTC 17-15. Chris Damasin played 90 minutes of stellar soccer in the net and recorded the win for the Blue Knights.
The home win moves the Blue Knights overall record to 7-9-0 (5-7-0 vs. two-year colleges, and 4-3-0 in NJCAA Region XI).
