Jay Pivec
Head Coach
Jay Pivec is the head coach of DCTC's new men's basketball team. One of the top coaches in the history of NJCAA Division III basketball, Pivec is best known as the legendary head coach of the Minneapolis Community and Technical College Mavericks.
An eight-time Minnesota College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Pivec entered the MCAC Hall of Fame in 2002. During his career at MCTC, he posted a 452–115 record, leading the Mavericks to four appearances in the DIII national tournament, including two second-place finishes–the last in 2009, a tough one-point loss to Richland College, ending a 33–2 season that saw the team ranked number one in the nation for seven consecutive weeks on the NJCAA DIII poll.

Ron Gates
Associate Head Coach
Ron Gates was Jay Pivec’s assistant coach for two decades with the MCTC Mavericks. His basketball roots go all the way back to the mid-1960s when he played point guard for Martin Van Buren High School in Queens, N.Y. His coach was basketball legend, Marv Kessler, who is regarded as one of the master teachers of the game. Read more...

Mark Sembrowich
Volunteer Assistant Basketball Coach
Mark Sembrowich joined the Blue Knights basketball program as an assistant coach for the 2012-2013 season. Sembrowich most recently served as the Academic/Recruiting Coordinator for the men's basketball program at Stanford University. Prior to his time at Stanford he served as an assistant coach at Yale for two seasons, and spent five years as an assistant coach at Army. Read more...

Volunteer Assistant Basketball Coach
Ed Cassidy joined the Blue Knights men's basketball coaching staff for the team's inaugural 2011–12 season. Cassidy has 19 years of experience as a head coach of boy's high school basketball, including 381 career wins, seven state tournament appearances and one Minnesota Division AAA State Championship with Simley High School in 1997.
