DCTC Baseball 2008 Season Recap

Knights set a bunch of team, season and career records.

The 2008 baseball season at Dakota County Technical College officially came to end on Monday, May 12, with an 11-16 loss to Ridgewater College in the NJCAA Region XIII championship game. The Blue Knights won their first two games in the tournament, but fell one win short of advancing to the NJCAA Division III World Series in Tyler, Texas.

The 2008 Knights proved to be an exceedingly accomplished team, setting a number of team, season and career records.

For the fourth year in a row, the team broke the school record for wins, finishing the season at 31-16.The team also placed third in the Minnesota Community College Conference (MCCC) state tournament after qualifying for the fourth straight year. The Knights finished second in the Region XIII tournament and were ranked among the top teams in the nation in NJCAA Division III.
 
DCTC played a truly demanding schedule this spring, including games against nationally ranked Division II scholarship schools, top Canadian club teams and two nationally ranked Division III schools, Ridgewater College in Willmar, Minn., and Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Mass.

Marcus Fitzgerald was named to the MCCC South Division team, MCCC All-State and All-Region.

Chase Brown and Evan Lucius were named to the MCCC South Division team.
 
The 2008 Blue Knights scored 367 runs (7.81 per game) on the year, shattering the old 2007 mark of 297 runs (6.91 per game). The 94 doubles, 21 triples, 30 home runs and 309 RBI were all new team bests.

Walks and HBPs were also new highs with 160 and 68 respectively. The pitching staff set a new high in strikeouts with 272 in 317 innings as well as a batting average against at .243.  The team also tallied 14 saves, setting another team record.
