Despite Solid Pitching Performance, Iowa Central Tritons Prove Too Much For DCTC Blue Knights

03/13/07

In game one, the Blue Knights managed eights hits, led by Derek Albers’ 2-3 effort that included a double. Iowa Central, however, put five runs on the board in the last two innings, taking a 3-9 victory over the Blue Knights.

The second game proved better for the Blue Knights. Iowa Central scored one unearned run in the first inning and held that lead until the fifth, when DCTC mounted a threat to tie the game. With two outs and a man on third, Tyler Jendro sent a ball towards second base that looked like the hit that would tie the game. However, Iowa Central’s second baseman made a great stab and ended the inning.

Iowa Central would add a run in the bottom of the fifth and and two more unearned runs in the seventh to get the 1-4 victory.

Joe Foley tossed five impressive innings (five K’s, two hits, two runs (one earned)) and Matt Enright, Jared Powell (2B), and Albers each managed one hit.

"Iowa Central is ranked third in the country. They have good athletes and are well coached," said DCTC Blue Knights Head Baseball Coach Tim Huber. "We played very well today, and I was proud of the effort."

The Blue Knights continue the spring trip and will take the field again Thursday against Jamestown (NY).
