Florida Trip Opens Blue Knights' Baseball Season With Split vs. Itasca and Two Wins Over Fergus Falls

PENSECOLA, Florida – The DCTC Blue Knights baseball team has opened the 2007 season from Florida with a split with Itasca and two wins over Fergus Falls.
In game one of the Saturday match-up with Itasca, DCTC earned a 12-3 win, putting 16 hits on the board. Jared Powell and Chase Brown led the way offensively, as they each went 3-4, both with a three-run home run. Brad Beskau collected three hits with two RBI, and Derek Albers, Matt Enright, and Ryan Valdez each added two hits.
Justin Kohls earned the win, pitching five innings of four-hit baseball and allowing just one earned run.
In game two, the Blue Knights only managed two runs on two hits in the first six innings. Itasca built a 7-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. DCTC made a solid comeback effort, as they scored three runs on four hits. The threat ended with a strikeout with the tying runs on base, though, and the Blue Knights lost 5-7.
On Sunday, DCTC starter Dave Geiger picked up his first win of the year in game one against Fergus Falls, holding Fergus to just two runs (one earned) in his six innings of work. The game was knotted at 2-2 entering the home half of the sixth, but the Blue Knights were able to score five runs on five hits to put the game out of reach for the 7-2 win.
Dillon Powell led the offensive charge, collecting two extra base hits, a double and a home run, going 3-4 with two RBI and Chase Brown adding a two RBI single in the five-run sixth inning.
DCTC didn’t waste any time putting runs on the board in game two, as they pushed five men across in the top of the first, never looking back. They game ended after five innings per the 10 run rule, with DCTC leading 12-0.
With the win, the Blue Knights belted 13 hits, including a long three-run home run by Jared Powell, who also added a double. Other players with multiple hits included Spencer Braun (3-4, 2 RBI), Ryan Valdez (2-3, 2B), Dillon Powell (2-3, 2B, 1 SB, 1 RBI), and Derek Albers (2-3). On the mound, Ryan Kraft pieck up his first win, tossing four scoreless innings and allowing just one hit.
The Blue Knights will be back in action in Florida on Monday against Iowa Central.
