DCTC Blue Knights Add Two Wins To Season Record

ROSEMOUNT, Minn.- Thursday was a good day for the Blue Knights baseball team as it swept Northland Community College in two home games, 9-5 and 4-3.
Game 1 (9-5) The second inning was the difference in this match up with DCTC scoring six runs. Alex Smith recorded the win, going six innings, allowing six hits and five runs. Mike Spurling came on to pitch a scoreless 7th. At the plate, Smith helped himself with a 2-4 effort and scored two runs. Nate Jackson and Ryan Van Dusen each had 2-4 games as well. Ben Neibaur hit his second HR in as many games.
Game 2 (4-3) Northland got the early lead with a run in the second, but the Blue Knights came back swinging to get two runs of their own on a Mike Spurling triple, scoring Nate Jackson and a RBI single from Dale Stein. In the third, Northland put another run on the board to tie the game. In the seventh frame, Northland touched Jackson for a leadoff solo home run to make the score 4-3. Jackson finished off the next three hitters in order to get the complete game win, striking out 10 hitters and walking one. Jackson gave up six hits along the way as he improved to 1-1 on the year, lowering his ERA to 5.35. Helping his own cause, Jackson was 3-3 at the plate, and was the only Knight hitter to record more than one hit.
In other action, on April 20, the Blue Knights were defeated by Rochester Community and Technical College, 8-3 and 12-2, in two league games. DCTC enjoyed an early 3-0 lead in the first game, but could not hold on as RCTC came back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Attempting to mount a comeback, DCTC loaded the bases in the seventh, but came up short. Tony Rome pitched a solid game outside the third inning. Rome struck out seven and walked one in five innings. In the second game, the Knights struggled on offense, recording four hits and a few key errors on defense. Of the 12 runs scored by Rochester, only six were earned. For DCTC, Jackson and Ben Neibaur accounted for the only runs of the game as they each hit solo home runs. Jackson was 3-5 on the day including a home run in each game against RCTC. Jackson has gone 8-12 in his past 4 games bringing his average up to .378. Next up, the Blue Knights will take on Minnesota West on April 24. Games are at Alimagnet Park in Burnsville at 1 and 3 p.m.
