Blue Knights Complete 2004 Baseball Season

05/04/04

Call it a season for the Dakota County Technical College Blue Knights baseball team. The squad finished up its 2004 campaign with two doubleheaders over the weekend, salvaging one win against Riverland on April 30.

The team’s 7-0 win was helped by the four-hit pitching of Ross Metzger, who turned in his third winning performance of the season. Metzger recorded eight strike-outs and only three walks in the win. Other impressive players in the Blue Knights’ shutout win were Jon Poferl (2-4), Scott Kleinfeld (3-4), Steve Kleppen (2-4) and Brian Jacobson (2-3).

Winded by the first game, the Blue Knights lost the second against Riverland, 14-3. Rochester came to town on Saturday, and while DCTC played competitively, the Knights ended up losing both games, 4-2 and 8-3.

Coach Kerry Lurken said the season ended on a high note, with the team exhibiting how it can play against tough competition.

“I wish we had another month of baseball, since our team is really starting to play well, and I really look forward to a great season next year,” Lurken said.

Lurken announced he will be nominating three players for the All-Division Team – Ross Metzger, Steve Kleppen and Troy Jacobson for their hard work and quality play throughout the season.
